The foundation of American actor George Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, which mainly fights for justice and equality, has been declared an “undesirable” organization and therefore banned from operating in Russia, it announced today the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office.
The Clooney Foundation for Justice, an American non-profit organization, “conducts work on a Hollywood scale aimed at defaming Russia, actively supports fake patriots and members of banned extremist and terrorist organizations,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
“Under the guise of humanitarian ideas, these ‘fighters for justice’ (…) promote initiatives for criminal prosecutions against the highest-ranking Russian authorities,” denounces the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office.
“The activities of the non-governmental organization Clooney Foundation for Justice were declared unwelcome on the territory of our country,” concludes its statement, which is titled: “The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office appreciated the acting talent of Hollywood activists.”
Russian authorities have not stopped stepping up their crackdown on opposition voices since February 2022 when Russian forces invaded Ukraine.

In July, the Russian media outlet The Moscow Times was banned.
