More than 30 flights were canceled and 200 were delayed on one of the busiest airports her Japan for one shears that just… got lost.

Concern over the scissors – which had been used in a shop in the departure lounge for a domestic flight – resulted in an hours-long security search at the airport New Chitose (CTS)which serves the Sapporo area on the northern island of Hokkaido.

According to the airport, 36 flights were canceled on August 17 and another 201 were delayed due to the investigation.

There were concerns that a potential terrorist could take the scissors and use them as a weapon while boarding a flight. Eventually, according to the airport, the scissor was located and flights were able to resume.

What the airport announced about the disruption

“We know that the incident occurred due to the lack of proper usage, storage and management systems by the store users,” New Chitose Airport officials said in a statement.

“We will investigate the incident, determine its cause and prevent its recurrence. We will also reaffirm that this incident could be related to a hijacking and a terrorist attack and we will ensure that all airport staff are fully aware of the importance of stewardship.”

As it states CNNamong those affected by the incidents was Japanese rock band 9mm Parabellum Bullet, who missed their appearance at the annual Rising Sun music festival in Hokkaido.

“We will surely get our revenge!!” the band said in a statement posted on social media, while the festival itself announced that it would not issue ticket refunds.

Many of the travelers took to the internet to vent their nerves: “I feel like crying because my flight was canceled because someone lost a pair of scissors,” one person wrote on X.

“Due to this incident, the flight I was supposed to take was canceled and now my long-awaited reunion with my family will take less time. It’s a big disappointment,” wrote another.

Still others felt the airport was taking the potential scissor theft seriously.

“As a passenger, I’m grateful they take such thorough measures to ensure our safety,” wrote one user on X.
