Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Friday (4) that the Planalto Palace explain in five days the official conditions for the participation of Carlos Bolsonaro, the president’s son, in the presidential entourage that traveled to Russia.
The minister points out that expenses, any daily paid and also the agenda must be informed. Carlos is a councilor for the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, affiliated with the Republicans. Moraes also ordered the Carioca Chamber to inform about any official license for the politician to make the trip.
Alexandre de Moraes’ decision responds to a request from Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP) regarding the presence of Carlos and advisor Tércio Arnaud —leader of the so-called “hate office”—on the trip the president made to Moscow between the 14th and 16th of this month.
Randolfe says in the request that Tércio articulates a fake news dissemination network and that his account “was one of the 88 [entre perfis pessoais e páginas] in Brazil suspended by Facebook and Instagram for violating the rules of conduct of these social networks”.
He also states that the visit to Russia contradicted Brazil’s historic position in the field of international relations and that it was “used by the President of the Republic and his minions to promote him, on the basis of the meme, with yet another lie to be used by his advertising”.
On the 15th, the date of Bolsonaro’s arrival in Moscow, Vladimir Putin announced, before a meeting with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz, the beginning of a troop withdrawal around Ukraine. The move, at the time, was interpreted as a possible retreat in a possible decision to invade the neighboring country, and the Brazilian president sought to capitalize on the matter, suggesting an influence on the Russian, by saying repeatedly that Putin’s maneuver took place ” coincidentally or not” of your visit.
On the 24th, Putin launched a military operation that triggered the current war. Bolsonaro has now been talking about maintaining “balance” in the conflict.
In the action to the Supreme, Randolfe also cites accusations that Russia would be the country of origin of a series of hacker attacks related to the Brexit vote, in 2016, in the United Kingdom, and the US presidential elections in 2016 and 2020.
After Randolfe’s request, the Attorney General’s Office stated that it had not identified any irregularities in the presence of the councilor and Tércio in the delegation and asked the Supreme Court to request more information about the trip — optionally.
Alexandre de Moraes did not follow the PGR’s demonstration and determined the explanations. The order was taken as part of the investigation of anti-democratic digital militias.
“The reported facts are apparently related to the object of these records, requiring the adoption of measures for their complete clarification, especially since this investigation focuses on criminal organization activity, with production, publication, financing and political centers, resulting in attacks democratic rule of law, including attacks and threats to the Brazilian electoral system,” said the minister.
In an interview with Jovem Pan’s Pingo nos Is program last Monday (28), Bolsonaro commented on his son’s trip.
“They beat me a lot because I took my son to Russia, didn’t they?” he said. “He does media work with me, advises me, talks to me, brings me accurate information and usually stays in my room. On these trips he makes with me, the heads of state have donated all the room and board for free.”
