The US vice president will meet with the leaders of both countries to coordinate their response to “the unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine by Russia,” the statement added.

“They will discuss continued support for the people of Ukraine through financial, humanitarian and security assistance and our determination to impose austerity measures on Russia and those complicit in the Russian invasion,” the statement from Harris’s office said. .

At the same time, Kamala Harris will discuss “how the United States can further assist Ukraine’s neighbors as they receive and care for refugees” who are leaving by the thousands to escape the war.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 1.2 million people had left Ukraine by Friday.
