Australia and Samoa, where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, will be visited from October 18 to 26 by King Charles accompanied by Queen Camilla.

Confirmation of the grueling trip was made by Buckingham Palace and is seen as further evidence of the nearly 76-year-old monarch’s positive response to treatment for the unspecified type of cancer with which he has been diagnosed. However, New Zealand is not included in the trip, as was originally planned before the cancer diagnosis.

The visit to Australia will be Charles’ first to an overseas country where he is still head of state, and the Samoan summit will be the first he will attend after his mother succeeded him as head of the Commonwealth.

Among other things, in Australia he will visit the parliament in Canberra, speak at an official reception, visit an Aboriginal memorial and inspect the Australian war fleet in Sydney Harbour.

He will also make visits related to environmental sustainability, but also to the treatment of melanoma, one of the most common types of cancer in Australia.

In Samoa the royal couple will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony and will meet with young people, with religious leaders, with experts in the protection of the oceans and local ecosystems.
