A Hamas delegation met Qatari and Egyptian mediators in Doha on Wednesday to discuss a Gaza ceasefire and a possible hostage and prisoner exchange, the group said.

Hamas said its chief negotiator, Khalil al-Haya, met Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel.

The Palestinian organization said they discussed “developments in relation to the Palestinian issue and aggression in the Gaza Strip,” without specifying whether the talks had made any progress.

In its statement, Hamas confirmed that it is “ready to immediately implement the ceasefire agreement as presented by President Biden” on May 31.

Recent mediation rounds held in Doha and Cairo were based on a framework laid out in May by US President Joe Biden and a “transition proposal” presented to stakeholders in August.

Hamas also reiterated its demand for Israel to withdraw from “all lands in Gaza”. The organization also said it made no further demands to negotiators and that it “rejects any new terms in this agreement from any side.”

Months of backroom negotiations brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States have failed to end the fighting between Hamas and Israel, except for a week-long truce that began in late November.
