Sumi’s water utility said the attack caused an overnight power outage.
The Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in his district Sumi in northeastern Ukraine, causing power outages in some areas and forcing authorities to resort to backup power systems, local authorities said today.
The attack damaged the Konotop, Okhtyrka and Sumy districts of the region, and important infrastructure facilities are now using backup power systems, regional officials said via the Telegram messaging app.
The water supply facilities of Sumi announced that the attack caused the power outage during the night, which led them to resort to an emergency power supply system.
The acting mayor of the city of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, said there were no casualties in his municipality and that power grid workers were working to deal with the consequences of the attacks.
Regional authorities also announced that air defense systems shot down 16 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) over the region.
The Ukrainian Air Force also announced that Russia launched 51 drones in its overnight attack on the country and that it shot down 34 of them after activating air defense systems in five regions.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced today that air defense systems shot down 16 Ukrainian drones over the border of the Bryansk and Kursk regions overnight.
