Russian forces seek to seize dam of strategically important hydroelectric power plant south of the capital, Kiev, the Ukrainian army warned today

The General Staff clarified that the Russian troops are now targeting the Kaniv Dam, which is located 150 kilometers south of Kiev, on the Dnipro River.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian forces are also trying to infiltrate the southwestern suburbs of the capital.

On Saturday night, the air defense sirens sounded several times in the Ukrainian capital.

In Kozelets, about 70 kilometers northeast of Kiev, there were movements of powerful forces with heavy weapons, including rocket launchers.

Russian forces continue to encircle Kyiv, Kharkiv (east) and Mykolaif (south).

The situation in Mariupol, which has been under Russian siege since yesterday afternoon, is dramatic.

The city of Borodyanka – near Kyiv – is also under Russian control, a local official said. He said that the city has been destroyed, while there is no water and electricity

More than 100,000 volunteers have been deployed to defend Kyiv since the day the Russian invasion began, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar was quoted as saying by UNIAN news agency.

This number is impossible to verify independently.

Ms. Maliar added that the volunteer units will not be disbanded after the war, instead they will join the Ukrainian armed forces, according to the agency.
