Lula and Putin discussed the war in Ukraine and the BRICS summit
Brazilian President Luiz Ignatio Lula da Silva had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today, a statement from Lula’s office said, adding that the two men discussed issues including the Russian-Ukrainian war and the upcoming summit of BRICS.
The two leaders, the Brazilian government said in a statement, “discussed issues that will concern the BRICS summit next month in Kazan, bilateral relations and the peace proposals of Brazil and China on the war between Russia and Ukraine.” .
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Oberchuk, who is visiting Islamabad, said today during a press conference with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ihad Dar that Moscow will support Pakistan’s membership in BRICS.
The name BRICS comes from the countries that participate in it: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The group last year invited Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates to join, in a move aimed at accelerating its effort to reshape a world order it sees as outdated.
