Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by six points in Reuters/Ipsos poll
Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris has widened her lead over Donald Trump to nearly 47% to 40% in the Nov. 5 presidential race, and appears to be closing the gap on her Republican challenger of employment and the economy, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The three-day poll, which ended Monday, shows Harris with 46.61 percent of registered voters and Trump with 40.48 percent, a difference of about six points.
In the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll, from September 11-12, their difference was about five points.
The poll’s margin of error is 4 points.
When asked which of the two candidates has a better approach to the economy, unemployment and jobs, 43% of voters chose Trump and 41% chose Harris. A Reuters/Ipsos poll in August had Trump ahead by three points on the issue, and by the end of July, just days after Harris launched her campaign, his lead was as high as 11 points.
Although national polls, including that of Reuters/Ipsos, give important indications of the views of the electorate, the winner of the election is determined by the results of each state. Seven swing states are likely to decide the outcome in this election.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online among a sample of 1,029 adults, of whom 871 were registered voters. Of those, 785 said they were very likely to vote in the election.
Among those likely voters, Harris leads 50% to 44%, similar to the lead she has among all registered voters.
