Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced that they launched an attack targeting the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Ashkelon with a ballistic missile and a drone.

The Israeli military announced earlier today that it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen. Missile warning sirens went off and explosions were heard.

Houthi army spokesman Yahya Sharea said the Shiite rebels’ operations would not stop in the coming days unless Israeli attacks on Gaza and Lebanon stopped.

“We will carry out more military operations against the Israeli enemy … for the blood of our brothers in Palestine and Lebanon,” he said in a televised speech.

For nearly a year, the Houthis have already launched numerous drone and missile attacks against Israel, while targeting ships in the Red Sea in a “show of solidarity” with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis are part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance,” an alliance of pro-Iranian armed groups that also includes Palestinian Hamas, Lebanese Hezbollah and Iraqi groups.
