After the death of Hassan Nasrallah from an Israeli strike in Beirut, according to Iranian authorities, security measures are increased
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been transferred to safe location within the country with increased security measures in place, two regional officials briefed by Tehran told Reuters.
The sources said Iran is in continued contact with Hezbollah of Lebanon and other regional organizations adjacent to Iran, in order to determine “the next step”, following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in yesterday’s Israeli strike in southern Beirut.
Yesterday, immediately after the Israeli strike, Ali Khamenei called an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council at his home.
In New York, from the floor of the UN General Assembly, Iranian President Massoud Pezheskian accused Israel of warmongering, while at the same time presenting a moderate image of his country.
Iran accuses Israel of assassinating Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran in late July and has vowed to respond “at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.”
The Supreme Leader of Iran, in a written statement, said: “Israel has learned nothing. The future of the region will be shaped by us, with Hezbollah at the forefront.”
“It is the duty of all Muslims to stand with the people of Lebanon and the proud Hezbollah, and help them face the usurping, cruel and diabolical regime. By the grace of God Lebanon will make the evil invader and enemy repent of his actions,” he added
“It is as if the resistance forces in the region are with Hezbollah and support it. The fate of this region will be determined by the resistance forces, and the proud Hezbollah is at their head,” concluded Ali Khamenei.
