The speaker of the parliamentary session immediately asked security to remove the protesters from the chamber and interrupted the debate
Pro-Palestinian activists today disrupted a debate in the Swedish Parliament on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank by throwing a bag at the Swedish foreign minister, a lawmaker told AFP.
The protesters started shouting when the Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergaard She was returning to her seat after a speech on the floor of Parliament, MP An-Sophie Alm told AFP.
“They started shouting and arguing in the gallery (…), then someone threw an object towards us, the MPs”Alm said, clarifying that the object was thrown in the direction where the foreign minister was sitting.
According to Swedish media, the object landed a few rows behind the bench where Stenergard was sitting, who was seen on video getting up and quickly leaving the room.
The MP added that she saw “Maria reacting to the noise and running out of the room”.
