The creator of vodka Stolichnaya announced on Friday that the drink is changing its name. With this move he is clearly against the Russian regime and the invasion of Ukraine.
According to CNN, Stolichnaya decided to rename itself Stoli, in protest of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Vodka, advertised as Russian, has been out of production in Russia for years. In particular, Stoli Group billionaire founder Yuri Scheffler has been exiled from Russia since 2002 for his stance on Putin and has been producing the famous vodka at a plant in Latvia ever since.
The Stoli group said in a statement that it supported Ukraine and stressed that the company had a long history of fighting against the Russian regime.
The company also mentioned the desire of its employees to take action in order to communicate more that this vodka has its “roots” in Latvia.
Finally, the company announced that it will use only Slovak supplies to ensure that none of the ingredients and ingredients of the drink come from Russia.
