Authorities in Berlin are bracing for possible incidents in the German capital ahead of the October 7th anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel.

marches, demonstrations and other events are planned for the weekend in Berlin and other German cities, with police preparing a large-scale operation to maintain order.

The police union said it expected a “dynamic situation” to develop in the capital. At the same time, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), the domestic intelligence agency, warned of an increase in anti-Israeli and antisemitic demonstrations.

In Berlin, pro-Palestinian protesters are planning a march under the slogan “A year of genocide – and the world is watching. Against police brutality” from the area Tempelhof up to Brandenburg Gate this afternoon at 15.00 (local time, 16.00 Greek time).

At the same time, the counter-demonstration “We stand next to Israel and the police” is being organized, while a pro-Israeli march “Against anti-Israeli police violence” is also expected to take place.

Tomorrow, pro-Palestinian organizations will again demonstrate against Israel’s attacks, while supporters of Israel will gather at the Brandenburg Gate. An overnight stay is also planned for the many victims of the war. Large anti-Semitic marches have also been announced in Stuttgart and Munich.

Demonstrations in London too

Meanwhile, a “major” police operation will take place in London ahead of protests and commemorations planned for the October 7 anniversary, the Metropolitan Police announced.

Today, there will be a demonstration organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other organizations, while a counter-demonstration is planned by the organization “Stop The Hate”. Tomorrow afternoon, there will be a commemoration in Hyde Park, organized by the Council of Parliamentary Boards of British Jews and other organisations. Police said they were not aware of any other major public events taking place on Monday, the anniversary of the attacks.
