The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Hezbollah is still organized and has not lost its chain of command, despite strikes by Israel, which Moscow says is “trying to ignite an armed conflict across the Middle East”.

“According to our assessments, Hezbollah, including the military wing, has not lost the chain of command, and is showing organization,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters.

Zakharova argued that the West, particularly the United States and Britain, are fueling the conflict in the Middle East and showing hypocrisy by supporting Israel, which is causing significant civilian casualties in Lebanon.

Hezbollah was founded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the early 1980s to fight Israel. It is also an important social, religious and political movement for Lebanese Shia Muslims.

Moscow also reprimanded Israel for last night’s (Tuesday) strike in Syria.

“Once again, Israel blatantly violated Syria’s sovereignty by launching a missile attack on a high-rise apartment building in a densely populated area of Damascus,” Zakharova said.

“It is outrageous that such actions have literally turned into a routine practice implemented in Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip,” Zakharova said, adding that they show Israel’s “desire to further expand the geography of armed escalation in the region ».
