The EU condemns all attacks against UN missions and expresses particularly serious concern about the attacks by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) against UNIFIL in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which caused the injury of many peacekeepers, its High Representative stresses EE Joseph Borel.

In the statement issued by Josep Borrell on behalf of the EU, he notes that such attacks against UN peacekeepers constitute serious violation of international law and are completely unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

It states that all actors have an obligation to take the necessary measures to guarantee the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN facilities at all times.

We urgently expect explanations and a thorough investigation from the Israeli authorities regarding the attacks against UNIFIL, which plays a fundamental role in the stability of South Lebanon” underlines the high representative.

At the same time, the EU expresses its deep concern about the continued firing of rockets by Hezbollah towards Israel, which must stop, and the IDF strikes on populated areas of Lebanon, causing a heavy civilian toll and displacing many. “We urge all parties to respect International Humanitarian Law, in all circumstances” he points out.

Finally, the EU reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and for all parties to commit and work towards the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
