By decision of the Ministry of Education – Finally, the alternative school will not operate within the Pancyprian High School where the wall would be erected
An uproar has erupted in Cyprus due to the decision of the Ministry of Education to operate an alternative school for students with extreme delinquent behavior within the Pancyprian High School. The decision provided for the construction of a wall which would separate the children, who will attend the alternative program, from those who attend the Pancypriot High School.
According to philnews.com, the teachers reacted from the first moment and much more when the construction works for the creation of the wall began, while the students of Pangyprio Gymnasium protested outside the school.
In fact, the Organization of Greek Secondary Education Officers of Cyprus (OELMEK) described the site of the alternative school as completely unsuitable after an on-site visit. “It does not satisfy any of the pedagogical parameters it should serve. The decision of the Ministry of Education to erect a wall to detach and separate this area from the Pancypriot High School is also tragic. It is an intensely depressing wall, especially for the children who will host the alternative program”underlined OELMEK.

As Philenews reports, citing reliable information, after the strong reactions from teachers, students and parents of the school, the Ministry of Education decided not to proceed with the implementation of the operation of the alternative school within the Pancyprian High School.
The program is expected to be implemented in another place, to be decided by the Ministry of Education.
