European Council President Charles Michel announced today that he has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to present his “victory plan” for Russia’s defeat at this week’s EU summit.

Zelensky is trying to secure the support of Kiev’s Western allies as the war in Ukraine enters its third year.

On social media, Michel said he invited Zelensky “to the European Council summit on Thursday, October 17 to update on the latest developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine and present his plan for victory.”

Military support to Kiev and the strengthening of Ukraine’s already strained energy sector are among the topics of the summit of the leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union, which will take place on Thursday in Brussels.

Last week, Zelensky made a lightning visit to European capitals, namely Berlin, London, Paris and Rome, at a time when his country is facing a third winter of war quite difficult.

The visits were organized at the last minute after US President Joe Biden postponed his trip to Germany to oversee preparations for Hurricane Milton as it approached Florida.

The Ukrainian leader has sought to get new military and financial aid from his European allies, fearing a drop in their support if Donald Trump wins the US election next month.

Russian forces have advanced to the eastern front and targeted the power grid as Ukraine faces its harshest winter since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022.
