French President Emmanuel Macron accused Israel of “indiscriminate” strikes in Lebanon and Gaza and of targeting UN peacekeepers, Elysee reports of a telephone conversation between Macron and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday (Tuesday).

Macron continued to push for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon to reach a diplomatic settlement, which he called “the only one that can meet Israel’s security requirements.”

The Israeli statement noted that Netanyahu rejected calls for a ceasefire, and said he would only agree to a deal in which all Hezbollah forces would be pushed out of a buffer zone on Israel’s border.

Macron also “expressed his indignation after the wounding of several peacekeepers by Israeli forces in Nakura and urged Israel to end this unjustified targeting.”

Israel continues to call on UNIFIL forces to leave the combat areas for their own protection.

Macron called for a ceasefire in Gaza to remove all hostages and allow humanitarian aid to enter, Elysee reports. He also expressed concern about settler violence and the construction of new settlements.
