Government sources in Rome said that as part of the immigration debate held at the Brussels summit, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underlined that her country’s agreement with Albania on closed centers for asylum seekers could be act as a deterrent to human traffickers.

At the same time, as the Italian public television Rai reports, Meloni underlined that the main priority is to prevent the departure of irregular immigrants to the countries of the European Union.

Finally, in relation to the Pact on Migration and Asylum, Georgia Meloni, according to Rai, pointed out that “there must be a balance between solidarity and a sense of responsibility” and that “as far as the external dimension is concerned , other efforts must be made with the aim of permanent cooperation with the countries of transit and origin, also offering incentives for legal immigration, but also fighting the action of organized crime in human trafficking”.
