The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, who filed a request for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallad, and three Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes, is accused of harassing a female colleague.

Britain’s Daily Mail reports that Khan has denied the allegations, implying that a smear campaign has been launched against him.

According to the Mail, Khan was scrutinized by the ICC over these allegations, a few weeks before he announced (in May) that he had sought the arrest warrants.

Ultimately the alleged victim decided not to file a formal complaint, according to the report.

Last month, Israel said it had filed a formal application at the ICC challenging the arrest warrants, and arguing that Israel has a strong and independent legal system capable of investigating such allegations on its own.

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court had reported receiving threats after his request to issue arrest warrants. Khan said he believed Netanyahu, Defense Minister Galland and three Hamas leaders, Ismail Haniya, Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif (all now dead) to be responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip and Israel .
