The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) alleged in a statement that on Sunday an Israeli army bulldozer deliberately destroyed an observation post and a perimeter fence on UN premises in Marwahin in southern Lebanon.

“Earlier today, an IDF bulldozer deliberately demolished an observation post and a perimeter fence of a UN position in Marvahin.

“Once again, we remind the IDF and all actors of their obligations to ensure the safety of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN facilities at all times. Again, we note that the violation of the UN position and the destruction of UN assets is a flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701. It also endangers the safety and security of our peacekeepers in violation of international humanitarian law.

»The IDF has repeatedly asked UNIFIL to vacate its positions along the Blue Line and has deliberately destroyed UN positions. Despite the pressure on the mission and our troop-contributing countries, peacekeepers remain in all positions. We will continue to undertake our monitoring and reporting duties.”
