Pizza No. 40 was for a long time the best-selling code on the restaurant menu in the German city of Dusseldorf, until the police discovered its “secret ingredient”: Cocaine!

German authorities say surveillance of the store has allowed them to uncover an organized crime ring in Germany’s most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia.

About 150 officers, including elite units, last week searched 16 properties in nine cities, arrested three suspects and seized caches of weapons, the DPA news agency reported.

Inspector Michael Graf von Moltke said police had targeted the popular pizzeria in the city after a routine food inspection revealed the drugs in the kitchen.

Investigators from the city’s narcotics division put the business under surveillance and noticed that the No. 40 pizza was a customer favorite.

“It was one of the best selling pizzas,” said Von Moltkesaid.

Under each such pie was placed a packet of cocaine.

“The revelation surprised us because the owner had never been charged with drug crimes.”

The advertising slogan of the pizzeria was “We deliver everything to your home”.
