Thirteen heavily armed hooded men stormed the set of a TV channel broadcast live for 20 minutes
Ecuadorian police announced today that they have arrested in Spain two gang leaders accused of planning the armed attack on TV station TC last January. Forged documents were found in their possession.
“Comandante Willy,” the alleged leader of the Los Tiguerones gang, and his brother, Alex, who authorities believe was second in command in the criminal organization, were arrested during a joint operation with the Spanish Militia, Ecuadorian police say. in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Ecuadorian authorities do not release the names of those charged in criminal charges, but reports say those arrested are William and Alex Alcivar.
According to police, they are accused of car bombings, death contracts, extortion, as well as planning the armed attack on the studios of the TC television network in the city of Guayaquil.
The armed attack on the studio was broadcast live for about 20 minutes. Viewers froze when they saw 13 hooded men charging heavily armed onto the show’s set. No one was killed or injured and the 13 gunmen were arrested during the intervention of a strong police force.
In the wake of the unprecedented attack, the government designated 22 gangs as “terrorist organizations” and mobilized the army to dismantle them.
The Los Tiguerones gang is one of these gangs and is allegedly involved in drug trafficking in the coastal provinces of Guayas and Esmeralda. The Alsivar brothers are also accused of murdering a prosecutor who was investigating their activities.
