Tehran is still weighing the situation before making its next moves after the Israeli airstrike early on Saturday
In his first statement after the Israeli air strike against military targets in Iran the country’s religious leader, the ayatollah, proceeded Ali Khamenei.
Israel’s attack in the early hours of Saturday should be “neither underestimated nor treated with exaggeration,” Khamenei said in a statement that showed Tehran was still weighing the situation before making its next moves, as SKAI’s envoy commented on Israel, Stavros Ioannidis.
In a statement yesterday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Iran is obliged to “defend” against the attack launched by Israel hitting military targets throughout the Islamic Republic.
“Iran has the right and duty to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression,” Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement, citing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. However, in the same announcement no mention is made of direct retaliation.
In addition, the president of Iran warned of new attacks against his country’s enemies, while the speaker of the Iranian parliament said that Iran’s response to the Israeli strikes it is inevitable.
