Court sentences IT specialist to 13.5 years in prison on charges of treason for trying to pass classified information to the CIA
A Russian court has sentenced an IT specialist to 13.5 years in prison on charges of espionage for trying to pass classified information to the US Central Intelligence Agency, the Russian Federation Security Service (FSB) said today.
Russian media reported that the man’s name is Firuz Dadoboev and he has dual citizenship – Russian and American.
The FSB, successor to the Soviet-era KGB, reported that Dadoboev attempted to pass illegally obtained state secrets to a CIA agent.
Footage released by Russian media shows him being captured near a wooded area in October 2022.
“It was established that F.T. Dadoboev, carrying information obtained illegally and constituting a state secret, guided by criminal intent, intended to pass it on to a representative of the American secret services. For this reason he had contacted the CIA,” he said. the FSB announcement.
According to the FSB, the arrested person admitted his guilt. There are no further details on what information he is accused of trying to give to the CIA.
The CIA did not immediately comment, while Dandoboev could not be reached for comment.
