“Thousands more children, who survived the bombings physically, have suffered acute psychological trauma from the violence and chaos around them”
Since October 4, at least one child has lost his life and another ten have been injured every day in Lebanon because of the war, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) underlined yesterday Thursday.
“Thousands more children, who survived months of relentless shelling physically unharmed, have suffered acute psychological trauma from the violence and chaos around them,” adds UNICEF in its statement.
The agency explains that children across the country are showing alarming signs of being emotionally and behaviorally affected by the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah war.
“UNICEF teams encountered children gripped by paralyzing fear and heightened levels of anxiety, including separation anxiety, fear of loss, withdrawal, aggression and difficulty concentrating.”
According to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since October 8, 2023, when the Shiite movement Hezbollah opened a front with Israel to support the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, 166 children have been killed and another 1,168 injured in Lebanon.
