Medvedev asked US to take Russia’s nuclear warnings seriously
O Dmitry Medvedev, A senior Russian official who served as Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 warned today that the United States would be wrong to think that Russia would not use nuclear weapons if its existence was threatened, a Russian news agency reported. TASS.
Specifically, Medvedev speaking to the RT television network asked the US to take Russia’s warnings seriously for the use of nuclear weapons in order to avoid World War III.
Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia’s powerful Security Council, said that high-ranking US officials do not want World War III, but somehow believe that “the Russians will never cross a defined line of reaction.”
“They are wrong,” Medvedev told RT, adding that Moscow believes the current political leaderships in the US and Europe lack the “foresight and skillful mind” of Henry Kissinger.
“If we are talking about the existence of our state, as the president of our country has repeated, but I, your humble servant, have also stated, as well as others, of course, we will simply have no other choice,” Medvedev said.
The two-and-a-half-year-old war in Ukraine is entering its most dangerous phase, according to Russian officials, as Moscow’s military forces advance into eastern Ukraine while the West considers how to support Ukraine.
Russia has been hinting to the West for weeks that it will react.
