Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said “in terms of defense spending we will reach 1.57% for 2025”
“On the defense front, despite the significant resources that have been allocated, the goal of 2% of GDP requested by NATO is very ambitious and not entirely compatible – especially – with the available financial coverage, within the framework of European rules,” said Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, speaking to the budget committee of the Senate in Rome.
“In light of the resources available in the new state budget, in terms of defense spending we will reach 1.57% in 2025, 1.58% in 2026 and 1.61% in 2027Giorgetti added.
Referring to the internal reality of Italy, the Minister of Finance of the Meloni government stated that he was surprised by the negative attitude of the unions, in relation to the state budget plan. Because, as he pointed out, “the government has prioritized allocating resources for low- and middle-income families, and it is surprising that this move is being contested by unions and forces that should be defending public and private employees.”
“Our goal is to give new impetus to purchasing demand and support growthGiancarlo Giorgetti concluded.
