Attending two ceremonies to honor British and Commonwealth war dead this weekend will be the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton.
According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the 42-year-old princess will be on Saturday at the so-called Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and on Sunday at the official ceremony at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday, one of the most important annual events in London.
The presence of the princess is not a surprise, but it is a confirmation of the positive course of her health.
In September, when she announced in an emotional video that she had successfully completed adjuvant chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer, Remembrance Sunday had been set as the most likely milestone for her return to major public appearances.
In between, however, she had pleasantly surprised the British by appearing alongside her husband Prince William in Southport, when they visited the families of the victims of the July attack.
In contrast, Queen Camilla’s presence at the weekend’s ceremonies is uncertain. The 77-year-old wife of King Charles canceled her engagements this week due to a respiratory infection.
According to the Palace, her presence will depend on medical recommendations.
As recently as Thursday, Prince of Wales William described the last year as “brutal” and “probably the hardest year of my life,” a reference to his wife’s and father’s cancer diagnoses.
