The Republican Party will control both houses of the US Congress when Donald Trump takes the oath of office on January 20, 2025, according to a new forecast by the election results analysis company Decision Desk HQ yesterday Monday, which will allow him to seamlessly advance his policies, from cutting taxes to shrinking the federal government, among other things.

Republicans had already secured a majority in Senate (at least 52-46), according to Edison Research’s forecast. Yesterday, DDHQ estimated that it will capture at least 218 seats in the House of Representatives, with eight still to be decided.

In the first term of Mr. Trump (2017-2021), his most important achievement was the sweeping tax cut, a measure that theoretically expires next year.

Legislation for it, like Democratic successor Joe Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure bill, were passed when their parties controlled both houses of Congress.

On the contrary, during the two years when the two houses of the American parliament were divided, Mr. Biden has struggled to get laws passed and even more importantly, secure funding to keep the federal government running.

The slim majority of Republicans in the lower house has been divided on several occasions: it dismissed the former speaker of the body, Kevin McCarthy, and on several occasions defied his successor, “speaker” Mike Johnson.

However, the control of Mr. Trump in the party and insurgent MPs seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

His power will also be supported by the decisive majority of conservatives on the Supreme Court (6-3), where he had appointed three members.

The new Congress will form a body and take office on January 3.
