Olympiacos is ready for its fourth consecutive victory in the Euroleague!
The “red and white” are against the Villerban tonight (21:00, Novasports4, News Bulletin 247, sport-fm.gr) for 9th matchday and while two twenty-four hours later (14/11) he will travel to Belgrade, where he will face the Maccabi Tel Aviv.
With the psychology at its height, the people of Piraeus have made it five-game winning streak in Euroleague and Stoiximan GBL, while playing the beautiful basketball that their always demanding fans want to see!
After consecutive victories in its home matches against Real Madrid and Barcelona, Olympiacos confirmed its upward trend in the big derby last Friday (8/11) against Panathinaikos. After an exciting matchup at OAKA, Giorgos Bartzokas’ team celebrated the victory with 94-89, with Fournier performing his best performance for the red and white (22 points with crucial well-timed 3-pointers in the final minutes) and with Vezenkov again starring (20p).
At 5-3 Olympiakos’ record in the Euroleague is now tied with Panathinaikos, Monaco and Paris, while tonight he wants to get his fifth victory in the same number of home matches he has given in the competition! Last Sunday (10/11) he did not face the slightest problem against Prometheus, which he destroyed with an emphatic 106-66 in SEF, with Giorgos Bartzokas using players who did not have much time to participate in the previous matches, while now he does not have yes… it hurts for absences, with the natural exception of Keenan Evans, who continues his recovery and will actually join the team from the new year.
“The team is playing very well in the last 10 days, before we were not playing so well. At least not on both sides of the floor. I think that anything important is going to be done in sports, it requires a process which is often difficult to accept, it has moments of judgment and criticism for all of us. But that’s the way it is, it takes work on a spiritual and psychological level and everything. It is a mistake to think that because Olympiacos won the previous three matches against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Panathinaikos, that this will be easy. This approach is completely wrong, I say it for the whole atmosphere that exists outside the team as well as inside”Bartzokas said ahead of tonight’s match.
As for the Villerbanis in the penultimate position of the Euroleague with a record 2-6. He has been celebrating a victory in the competition since October 18, when he beat Baskonia 76-69, while away from home he is 0 in 4, having been defeated by Maccabi (89-82), Alba (84-79), Barcelona (90-83) and Panathinaikos (92-68).
Last Sunday (10/11) they defeated Nanterre with an impressive 109-103, improving their record in the French league to 6-2 and remaining in second place, behind Sole and together with Monaco, Paris. Last week, they made it difficult for Fenerbahce, having a great night with De Colo (18 points, 11 assists), but in the end they were defeated 77-73, while for tonight’s match with Olympiakos, Sako and Azinza are not counted, while the participation is given as doubtful by Lee and Kahudi.
The referees of the match will be Saša Pukl (Slovenia), Tomas Travicki (Poland) and Alberto Baena (Spain), while for last season, Olympiacos was victorious in both of its meetings with the French team, prevailing with 85- 73 in Lyon and 80-64 in Piraeus.
