At least 29 people were killed today due to Israeli shelling in various areas of Lebanon, including southern suburbs of Beirut, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced this evening.

After the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon’s Hezbollah opened a front against Israel in support of the Palestinian Hamas.

After almost a year of hostilities, the conflict escalated into open war on 23 September.

The Israeli air force has been mainly pounding areas considered Hezbollah strongholds in southern and eastern Lebanon, but some strikes have been reported in other locations as well.

At least 12 people were killed and eight others were injured today due to an Israeli strike in the mountainous Souf district, south of Beirut, according to an account of the Lebanese Ministry of Health. The National News Agency (NNA or ANI) clarified that a residential building housing displaced persons was bombed.

A few kilometers to the north, in the Alei district to the east of the capital, eight people were killed and several injured due to an Israeli airstrike, Lebanon’s health ministry said. A security official told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that a residence where evacuees had also taken refuge was hit.

In the southern part of Lebanon, where the Israeli army has been conducting ground operations since September 30, seven people died in the communities of Tefahta and Rumin, the ministry said.

The Israeli air force also hit the city of Nabataea, as well as Tyre, which has been bombed frequently in recent days. Two people were killed in the Ermel district in the Bekaa Valley (east) near the border with Syria.

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have claimed the lives of more than 3,300 people, according to a tally by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, which points out that most deaths have been recorded since last September, when Israel escalated bombing and launched ground operations against Hezbollah.
