Qatar announced over the weekend that it had informed Hamas and Israel that it was freezing mediation efforts
Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will visit Turkey tomorrow for high-level meetings, Turkey’s trade minister said today, after Doha announced at the weekend it was suspending mediation efforts to reach a Gaza ceasefire.
Some analysts believe that Turkey, despite its strained relations with Israel, may play a role in the mediation process since it does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization and its officials regularly visit Turkey.
Qatar announced over the weekend that it had informed Hamas and Israel that it was freezing efforts to broker a deal that would provide for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages until they show will and seriousness.
“The emir of Qatar will be in Ankara tomorrow (Thursday). There will be important talks, a high-level meeting of the strategic partnership council,” Trade Minister Omer Bolat told broadcaster tv100 in comments focused on bilateral trade relations.
Bolat did not refer to the decision by Qatar or Hamas in his comments. “We expect…any moment to see a broad trade agreement with Qatar come into force,” he said.
