The Israeli airstrike targeted the Qusheir region in central Syria, which is near the border with Lebanon
An Israeli airstrike today targeted the Qusheir region in central Syria, which is located near the border with Lebanon, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported.
SANA spoke of an “Israeli attack targeting the Qusheir area, in Homs province,” an area where Lebanon’s Hezbollah is present, adding that “air defense arrays” were activated against “enemy targets in the sky” in that area.
The Israeli strike targeted the Qusheir district in the southern part of Homs province in central Syria, Syrian state media reported.
Israel says its airstrikes are aimed at curbing the transfer of weapons from Iran through Syria destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to him, the transfer of weapons is widespread in the city of Qusheir, near the Syrian-Lebanese border.
The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Israel has been conducting military operations against targets in Syria linked to Iran for years, but escalated these raids after the unprecedented attack by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.
