The SA called on “all parties to take every measure to respect the safety of the personnel and facilities” of the mission.
The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday condemned the attacks in recent weeks against the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (FINUL), calling on “all parties” to guarantee the security of the peacekeepers.
With their statement, the SA member states condemned the attacks against FINUL positions, which resulted in the injuries of its members.
They did not name those responsible for these “incidents”, however they did mention the dates of some.
He specifically refers to the attacks on October 29, when a rocket “probably” fired by Hezbollah or allies hit the peacekeeping mission’s general headquarters, on November 7, when five peacekeepers were injured in Israeli shelling, and on November 8, when FINUL accused Israeli army how it caused damage to its position during action that called “deliberate” and “immediate”.
The Security Council called on “all parties to take every measure to respect the security of the mission’s personnel and facilities”, insisting that “peacekeepers must never be targeted” and expressing its “full support” for FINUL.
More broadly on the conflict in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah, which shows no signs of abating, the Security Council expressed its “deep concern” over “civilian casualties and suffering, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the damage to archaeological sites in Lebanon, threats to world heritage sites in Baalbek and Tire of UNESCO, and the growing number of displaced people’.
