There is a chance to resolve the issue of Iran’s nuclear program through diplomatic channels, but that chance is “limited”, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today.

“There is still an opportunity for diplomacy, even if this opportunity is not very big, there is a limited possibility,” Aragci said on state television, following a visit to the country by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi.

“The course of our nuclear program next year will be sensitive and complex, and we are prepared for confrontation or cooperation,” the head of Iranian diplomacy said.

He stressed that the 2015 nuclear deal, from which Donald Trump withdrew the US in 2018, in his first term as president, no longer has the same value for Iran.

“If negotiations begin, the nuclear deal may serve as a reference point, but it no longer has its former value. We need to reach a workable agreement,” he added.
