Whindersson Nunes’ debut in professional boxing was not what he expected. The YouTuber and actor lost to Indian Neeraj Goyat and used his social media account to comment on a move that took place in the third round, which ended up becoming a meme on the web.
Whindersson received a “jail” from his opponent after a “clinch” (when fighters end up grabbing each other after a sequence of blows) in one of the corners of the ring. “To go through such an antics for US$500,000, never again”, said the boxer, referring to the amount he would have received for the fight: approximately R$2.9 million, at the current price. “The guys are kids,” he added.
Internet users wasted no time in mocking the Brazilian. “Take encoxada,” wrote one. “For that amount, I would also get a kick out of the Indian guy,” commented another. However, some followers regretted the episode. “Lack of respect for the opponent”, said a third, while a fourth added: “Whindersson didn’t deserve it. This is heartbreaking.”
The Brazilian’s fight, in the super-middleweight category, was broadcast on Netflix and took place in Arlington, in the United States. Whindersson Nunes opened the main card of the event, which featured the highly anticipated fight between Mike Tyson, 58, and Jake Paul. The former world heavyweight champion was unable to overcome his opponent, 31 years younger.
