Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday that Israeli leaders should be given death sentences, not arrest warrants.
His remarks came after the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallad, and a Hamas leader, Ibrahim Al-Masri.
“Bombing people’s homes is not victory,” he said of the Israelis.
“The front of resistance will expand. The crimes of the Zionist regime intensify the resistance,” Khamenei noted, adding that “it is certain that in the end the Zionist regime will be destroyed.”
Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu’s office and members of the Israeli government last Thursday strongly condemned the International Criminal Court in The Hague, accusing it of “anti-Semitism” after its decision to issue arrest warrants against the Israeli prime minister and Yoav Gallad.
The move comes after ICC prosecutor Karim Khan announced on May 20 that he is seeking arrest warrants for alleged crimes linked to Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel and the Israeli military response in Gaza. The Hague also issued an arrest warrant for Hamas leader Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al Masri (also known as Mohammed Deif).
