A light aircraft has crashed into a busy boulevard in the city of La Libertad on Ecuador’s western Pacific coast, killing two people, emergency and security services said.

Media reported that it was a man and a woman on board the plane, while a passing motorcyclist was injured when he was hit by debris.

In visuals uploaded to social networking sites, a damaged aircraft can be seen on the road, next to a blob of white paint. The logo of ESMA (Escuela Superior Militar de Aviación, “higher military aviation school”) can be seen on part of the plane.

In 2022, a similar accident had occurred in a park in the area of ​​the city of Guayaquil (west). The two occupants of a light aircraft that crashed at the time were killed, while its operator was seriously injured.
