Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Shaar said today that he believes the United States will punish the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad.

Israel announced yesterday that it has informed the ICC that it will appeal the Court’s decision regarding the issuance of these arrest warrants.

The ICC, to which Israel is not a member and whose jurisdiction it does not recognize, last week issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallad and the head of the Palestinian Hamas armed wing, Mohammed Daif, for war crimes and crimes against humanity. .

On a visit to the Czech Republic, Saar emphasized today that other countries are outraged by this decision of the ICC, including the US.

“I tend to believe that in Washington, legislation will be passed very soon against the ICC and against anyone who cooperates with it,” Saar said at a joint press conference with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky.

Israel’s foreign minister added that Israel will end the war in the Gaza Strip, now in its 14th month, when it “achieves its goals” of returning hostages held by Hamas and ensuring the Islamist group no longer controls the Palestinian pouch.

Saar added that Israel does not intend to control the lives of civilians in Gaza, adding that peace is “inevitable” but cannot be based on “illusions.”
