Images of destruction in Mariupol show new satellite photos taken yesterday by the American company, Maxar Technologies.
The images show extensive damage to urban infrastructure and apartment buildings throughout the city of Mariupol, while fires are seen in the western part of the Black Sea port city and dozens of high-rise apartment buildings that have been severely damaged.
Reuters could not independently verify the photos.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said today that Mariupol was under siege by Russian forces who had invaded his country, but that the city was still under Ukrainian control.
Yesterday A mosque in Mariupol was also hitin which about 80 people had found refuge, including Turkish citizens.
At least 1,582 civilians have been killed in the city.
Despite the Russian pounding, the city remains under Ukrainian control, but is facing humanitarian catastrophe as there are severe shortages of food, water and medicine.
