Kosovo’s Interior Minister Jellal Svetsla announced, at a press conference, that eight people have been arrested as part of investigations into last night’s explosion in a water canal used for electricity generation.

Svetslai also reported that “a huge arsenal” was found and confiscated in the possession of those arrested, as well as a large number of military camouflage uniforms.

The Kosovar minister revealed that “the explosion in the water canal was caused by an explosive which was placed in a black bag and activated with a slow-burning fuse”.

On Friday night, an explosion occurred in an artificial water channel in northern Kosovo, causing a crack in the concrete wall and causing a leak. This canal supplied water to a thermal power station in Kosovo, which caused problems in the production of electricity.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti called the blast a “terrorist act” and accused Belgrade of orchestrating the bombing.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed the accusations as “baseless”, noting that Belgrade had no involvement.

“The baseless accusations against Serbia, made hastily and without any evidence, are deeply irresponsible and disturbing. Such baseless allegations are aimed at damaging the prestige of Serbia, as well as undermining efforts to promote peace and stability in the region,” Aleksandar Vucic said in a video post on Instagram. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Djuric, claimed that this was a provocation by Pristina aimed at making the Serbs guilty.
