Donald Trump has announced billionaire banker Warren Stevens as the next US ambassador to the UK.
Donald Trump announced yesterday Monday his intention to appoint Warren Stevens, a billionaire banker and financial backer of the Republican president-elect, as the next US ambassador to the United Kingdom.
“Over the past 38 years, as chairman and CEO of Stephens Inc., Warren has built a remarkable financial services business while altruistically contributing to his community as a philanthropist,” said Mr. Trump, who will take office on January 20, via Truth Social.
Warren Stevens — whose investment bank is based in Arkansas, not Wall Street — has given millions of dollars over the past year to political organizations campaigning for Republicans, including some who campaigned for Donald Trump personally, according to data collected by the non-governmental organization Open Secrets.
After being elected by beating Kamala Harris on Nov. 5, the Republican has announced deafening appointments to his future administration, which will be made up mostly of loyalists with an often belligerent profile.
On Saturday, Mr. Trump announced the upcoming appointment of Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law and former adviser Jared Kushner, to the post of US ambassador to France.
Charles Kushner spent some time in federal prison for fraud. He was pardoned by then-President Trump in December 2020.
During his first term in the White House (2017-2021), the Republican had appointed another billionaire and campaign supporter, businessman Woody Johnson, as the US ambassador to Britain.
