At least 26 people were killed and 28 injured from the collision of two buses yesterday Friday in the western part of the Ivory Coast, as announced by the Ministry of Transport of the African country.

The accident occurred at noon on Friday on the main road Dalois-Issia, “causing the death of 26 people – ten of whom were charred – and the injury of 28 others”, according to the update.

Experts from the Ministry of Transport went to the scene and started an investigation to shed light on the circumstances of the fatal traffic accident.

As in many African countries, fatal traffic accidents are common in Ivory Coast, due to the poor condition of some roads and many vehicles, as well as drivers not obeying the traffic code.

In early November, 20 people were killed when a bus collided with a tanker in the central part of the country.

Around 1,000-1,500 people are killed each year on Ivory Coast’s roads, according to the transport ministry, which has set an ambitious target of reducing road fatalities by 50% by 2025.
