Investigators received a tip about the man after he was spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona by an employee
Authorities are questioning a man in central Pennsylvania today in connection with the slaying last week of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, US media reported.
Investigators received a tip about the man after he was spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona by an employee who thought he resembled the suspect, CNN reported, citing unnamed officials.
The man was found to be in possession of a gun, silencer and fake identification documents similar to those used by the gunman, according to the television network. One of the ID cards matched the name the suspected gunman used to check into a Manhattan hotel before the attack, the New York Times reported.
The man was arrested on charges brought against him by local police, possibly related to giving false identification to police, and officers from New York are rushing to Altoona, according to the Times.
Neither the NYPD nor the Altoona Police Department have responded to a request for comment.
Thompson, 50, was shot outside a Manhattan hotel early Wednesday morning by a masked man who appeared to be waiting for him to arrive before shooting him in the back.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released by authorities, fled the scene and then rode a bicycle into Central Park.
CCTV footage captured him leaving the park and getting into a taxi bound for a bus station in northern Manhattan, where police believe he took a bus out of the city.
