The main suspect in the murder of the head of a US social security giant had with him a handwritten manifesto expressing his anger at the sector, a police officer revealed today.

“I read this manifesto (…) It is handwritten. He hints that he is angry with the health care system at USA” explained the head of the New York police investigators, Joseph Kenney, on ABC’s Good Morning America.

“More specifically» o 26-year-old Luigi Mangioni “explains that the health care system is the most expensive in the world, while the life expectancy of an American is 42nd worldwide. He has written extensively about his disdain for corporate America and the healthcare industry in particular“, he added.

A day after Mangioni was arrested in the killing of Brian Thompson, the chairman and CEO of UnitedHealthCare, there are still many questions about the suspect’s motives. Maggioni comes from a wealthy family and studied engineering at a private university in Pennsylvania.

Mangioni was arrested at a McDonald’s store in Altoona, about 500 kilometers west of New York. A Pennsylvania court ordered his pretrial detention, pending his transfer to New York.

The police are concerned about the photo of an X-ray that the suspect had posted on his profile on the X platform.

The last Wednesday morning the suspect approached Brian Thompson, 50, and shot him in cold blood outside a Manhattan hotel. The killing was caught on security cameras.

Thomson’s death caused a lot of emotion but also a lot of hateful comments against US health insurance programs. Some users on social networking sites expressed anger at the for-profit system, accusing the companies of getting rich off the backs of patients.

“We don’t kill people in cold blood for political reasons or to express a point of view» commented the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro.
