Image, however, does not always reflect reality. HTS remains on the terrorist list and al-Golani is a decorated terrorist. Nevertheless, he is talking to the West, has the acceptance of Turkey and is emerging as the new strongman in Syria.
What happens next will depend on many factors. Changing the khaki uniform to the jacket and shirt, however, sends a message to the West.
