UK politics have been rocked by revelations that a Chinese “spy” was close to Prince Andrew as a confidant and influential in the elite.

The alleged spy, known only as H6, was banned from entering the country for the first time in 2023 on suspicion of “covert activity” on behalf of Beijing.

The case recently came back to the fore after Mr H6 complained that the exclusion of from the United Kingdom was illegal and appealed to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC).

Last week, a court in London upheld the ban and ruled that the country’s then home secretary, Suella Braverman, was “entitled to conclude that he posed a risk to national security”.

British MPs are expressing concern following the revelation about the level of access the businessman is said to have gained after reports said he met with former prime ministers David Cameron and Theresa May.

Sky News has gathered all the information that has come to light about the alleged China agent.

Who is H6?

H6 is one 50 year old Chinese man national who worked as a civil servant in China before moving to the UK where he set up his own business.

He allegedly worked on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party (KKK) and the United Front Labor Department – an arm of the CCP said to be used to influence foreign entities.

Magistrates were told that in a briefing to the Home Secretary in July 2023, officials claimed the H6 was capable of creating relationships between famous personalities of the United Kingdom and senior Chinese officials “who could be exploited for purposes of political interference”.

They also reported that the H6 had downgrade its relationship with the Chinese statewhich, combined with his relationship with Andrew, posed a threat to national security.

Three judges noted on December 12 that H6 enjoyed a private life in the UK, the businessman’s “second home”. He had social status, a home and business interests in the UK and was considered a confidant of the prince.

His relationship with Prince Andrew

It is not known exactly when Andrew and H6 first met, but in a statement released by the prince on Friday, he said they met through “official channels». In fact, they are believed to have become so close that H6 was invited to a royal birthday party in 2020. He also visited Buckingham Palace twice as well as St. James’s Palace and Windsor Castle at Andrew’s invitation according to the Times.

H6 was also told by Andrew’s aide, Dominic Hampshire, that he was free to act on behalf of the prince when dealing with potential investors in China.

A letter from March 2020 from Hampshire – which referred to the prince’s birthday invitation – was also read to the court. This was found on H6’s devices when he was stopped at a port in November 2021.

The consultant stated in the letter: “I hope it is clear to you where you stand with my principal (Prince Andrew) and his family. You should never underestimate the power of that relationship… Except for his closest inner confidants, you’re sitting at the top of a tree that many, many people would like to be in.”

The judges who upheld H6’s entry ban argued that the prince could have become “vulnerable» because of her his influence.

Several media report that the King Charles informed of his brother’s ties to the alleged spy.

Will H6 be named?

The alleged Chinese spy is known only as H6 because of what the court has granted temporary anonymity order which protects his identity.

However, some MPs are calling for the removal of this mandate. THE Nigel Farage said his party was prepared to use parliamentary secrecy – which gives MPs legal immunity – to name the alleged agent in the House of Commons.

At the same time, the former leader of the Conservatives Ian Duncan Smith said he intended to table an urgent question in the House of Commons about the influence of the United Front Labor Department, the group believed to be linked to H6.

He told The Guardian newspaper that he would try to put pressure on the government over the Foreign Influence Registration System (FIRS), which is designed to protect Britain from covert influence but has not yet been implemented.

And Tom Tugendhat, the former Conservative security minister, also called on Labor to continue implementing FIRS. He told Sky News that this is the case only the “tip of the iceberg».

He claimed the UK was “seeing a pattern” of attempts to influence or change British policy and attempts to steal financial secrets and intellectual property.

What does China say?

A spokesman for the UK’s Chinese embassy said last week that some are “so willing” to make up “pro-China spy stories”. “This is again a classic case of the thief shouting ‘catch the thief’.” he added.

“Their aim is to slander China and sabotage trade between China and the UK. We strongly condemn this”he underlined.

He also pointed out that Beijing “it tries to bring together various political parties and people from all walks of life, ethnic groups and organizations to promote cooperation between the CCP and people who are not members of it.”
